Saturday and Sunday art classes

Life drawing class held at Lydiate parish hall L31 4EQ, held first Saturday of each month.

Saul Junction, Gloucestershire. Watercolour

Semi-abstraction to abstraction. An example of expressive and creative mark making.

First Saturdays – Life Drawing Classes

The first Saturday of each month features our life drawing class. This class is open to people, 18-plus, of all levels of ability and experience. We use a variety of male and female life models. The first thing you are taught when working from life, how to measure the model to ensure you get proportions correct. As you gain experience and confidence, you will be encouraged to try alternative approaches to drawing the nude. Fee £30.

Second Saturdays – General Art Classes

These classes are open to beginners and those more advanced wanting to improve techniques. It covers the same curriculum as the weekly class, but each Saturday will be the equivalent to two weekly classes. The class provides an ideal opportunity to learn drawing and painting, starting with the very basics. If the weather permits, eventually we can also work outdoors.

Working out of doors allows you to work in the landscape, sketching and painting. You will find this an enjoyable day, especially if the weather is bright. Obviously, you will need to bring along appropriate clothing depending on the weather. The Hayloft, a popular centre offering a cafe, farm shop, but also a variety of wildlife, plenty of peacocks and ducks, with the ruined hall located in the wood.

Fee £30.

Second Sundays – Your Journey Into Abstraction

Often you hear the term ‘nothing is right, nothing is wrong’. In other words, you can do whatever in the drawing/painting process and it will be authentic, even if it doesn’t always meet your own personal satisfaction.

As you may have experienced, this sounds great, until you face a blank canvas or sheet of paper. Then we are all faced with the huge question as when in a sweet shop and you have the pick of anything. What do I pick first? Where do I begin? What’s the first mark? What if I don’t like it? And you freeze up.

To avoid this freezing on the spot, you will be encouraged and shown that just making marks or better still, use one of the drawing techniques you’ve been introduced to will soon get you being creative, (if you’ve forgotten, just ask in class), because the process requires experimentation. Experimenting is the key to it all.

Fee £35.
