Learn the basics of creating art (and much much more)
Our weekly art classes are ideal for someone wanting to start drawing and painting, as well as more experienced artists looking for support, encouragement and socialisation.
The classes run in ten-week blocks throughout the year, although there are no classes over the Summer recess.
Following this course you will:
- Become familiar with various media for drawing and painting.
- Learn to draw accurately and in proportion.
- Discover how to compose an interesting piece of art.
- Learn about perspective and creating the illusion of depth.
- Explore the use of tone and colour.
- Learn about colour theory and the joy of mixing your own colours.
You will learn to use a wide variety of materials, starting with pencil drawing, then charcoal, acrylics, and watercolour. You will have the opportunity to experiment using pen and ink, oils (water based oils are recommended) and other media such as conte sticks, pastels, and Brusho.
Once you have learned the basics, you can move over to the more advanced group where you will be encouraged to expand and develop your art. Trying more abstract painting; using pen and ink; gestural or free drawing; working to bigger scale, painting en plein air (outdoors), and so much more.
Class times, locations and prices
We have classes throughout the week, including evenings, so it’s likely there will be a class that suites you. Remember we also run weekend and online classes, too!
All these classes are open to absolute beginners and more advanced artists. The course fee is £130 per ten-week block. If you miss a week, you are welcome to make to up by attending a class at a different time or location.

We have online class, running over Zoom, for those unable to attend in person. The class runs live on
- Tuesday evening 7-9 pm.
Recordings are available to view for up to two weeks, so you’re not restricted to the Tuesday time slot.
The Zoom class costs £12 per session.
First Saturday of each month, life drawing. Directly from the model. £30
Second Saturday of the month, general art class, for those who cannot make a weekly class. £30
Second Sunday of the month, semi-abstraction to abstraction. £35
